Excerpt from Naomi's speech in Act 1 of Ruth: A Play

Naomi:   Ah, Lord, why hast Thou turned Thy face away?
Why hast Thou laid Thine hand so heavily
upon Thy servant? Grief doth not repay
grief’s toils, as love once did. For presently
I shall to sleep—then shortly waken to
               discover all misfortunes still attend
me on my way. And now these coins few
must needs suffice to take me to the end.
My daughters-in-law I must now release
unto their homes, that they may seek their peace.
